As the weeks carry on under lockdown, many of our children will experience birthdays without their friends and family. Here are a few ideas to make their birthdays feel special at home.
Order supplies online in advance.
Do you need balloons, decorations, cards, cake ingredients? Are you having a theme? Make sure you leave enough time for postage.
Happy Birthday multiple signs or hats!
Contact friends and family in advance, ask them to create a happy birthday sign, hat or decoration with your child’s name on, stick it up in their home or wear it and take a photo to share. Your child will see happy birthday signs for him/her in lots of different places.
Group Happy Birthday singalong
Set up a group meeting using an app like Zoom or Houseparty in advance, get the birthday boy/girl to sign in last as a surprise, then sing Happy Birthday together.
Movie and Picnic
Create a cinema in your front room with popcorn, sweets, or a picnic on the floor. Choose a movie and make the tickets for it and posters, collect the tickets on the way in to the room,
Order or send a dessert
Keeping the cake a secret? How about asking a local business to send a cake or special dessert to your front door.
