If you don’t know already, Hotpod Yoga has come to Norwich and have based themselves in the rather unlikely yoga location of Castle Quarter in the city.
Whilst a shopping centre might not seem like a very yoga-y venue, when I was invited to come along to try out a Hotpod Yoga class my thoughts immediately went to CHILDFREE TIME where I can pootle around the shops and go to a cafe afterwards – hurraaaah!
Before I launch into how my class went, here’s what Hotpod Yoga have to say about themselves:
Hotpod Yoga is based in the heart of Norwich in the evolving Castle Quarter. Feel the worries of your day melt away as the urban-chill beats, sizzling temperatures and rhythmic linking of postures transports you to a flow like state. The pod offers an unparalleled experience that embraces the traditions of yoga, with a modern twist that fires up all your senses. We’re open 7 days a week with a varied timetable so that even the busiest person can fit some much needed yoga into their life! After a sweaty session help yourself to our facilities including showers and hair dryers before enjoying a day of shopping, wining and dining in the city. Castle Quarter has security 24/7 with indoor parking so you can step straight from your car into the pod without fearing the British weather.
First things first, my exercise background is minimal…
When we went into lockdown I decided I was going to start stretching a little every day and try to rebuild my body after growing and birthing three children. (Then came my midlife crisis of adding in weights, boxing, pole and roller skating, but we’ll cover those another time 😂). Safe to say I have fallen in love with stretching and absolutely believe in the benefits for my body, as well as the mental health benefits of doing something for myself.
You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga or pilates…
Forget that myth straight away. Everything can be adapted to your level and one of the things I loved about the Hotpod Yoga class I attended, was that there were variations given for EVERY move we did. You could choose which felt the most comfortable and push yourself if you felt like you could. There is not a hint of a competitive element, it felt super supportive and the teacher genuinely wanted everyone to feel relaxed and like they’d achieved something by the end of the session.
The HOT part of Hotpod Yoga…
As the name suggests, you are going to do yoga in a Hotpod. The pod is set up inside the unit at Castle Quarter and is set to 37degrees. It was hot. I’ll be honest, it felt quite stifling when I first went in, but when I relaxed into it and stopped fighting feeling hot, it actually felt quite good to get nice and sweaty. Plus, the heat helps your muscles relax into the poses!
The class felt like a challenge, especially in the heat, but I have never finished any form of exercise session and wish I hadn’t bothered. It always feels amazing to have done something for me.
Good to know…
MOST IMPORTANTLY
Definitely worth giving it a go, especially with the free taster class!
