One of our Mumbler Parent Champions was meant to go to the Mum2Mum Market in Costessey recently with a £20 budget to see what super bargains they could bag, but unfortunately her little girl was ill SO, we drafted in one of the Mumblers who follow on Instagram to be our Mumbler Super Shopper.
Over to Rachel…oooh, what did she buy?
Collaboration with Mum2Mum Market Norwich
We arrived at the Norwich Mum2Mum market a little earlier than the 10am start, although not quite as early as planned as is always the case with toddler in tow! There was plenty of parking available, and appeared to be throughout the morning. We’d been before so knew the market is very popular, and today was no exception with an already snaking queue out the door before opening time.
I am always keen to shop secondhand where I can, it’s better for the environment, it’s often more affordable, and in this case also supports other parents who are having a clear out/wishing to make a bit of extra money.
We had a brief chat with the organisers on the way in, they were very welcoming and wished us luck with our bargain hunting. Entry is £2 per adult and kids go free.
We were told we could go round the hall as many times as we liked, so we took the opportunity to race ahead of some big crowds at the first couple of stalls and complete a lap to see what was on offer. Toys and clothes were in plentiful supply, especially girls clothes. There were also lots of books, a small selection of maternity clothing, baby carriers, I counted around 7 high chairs and even a couple of pushchairs. All in all, a wide selection of items which would cater from pregnancy to approx age 7.
All of the stall holders were polite and friendly, and although sometimes a bit crowded, all of the other shoppers were respectful of each other.
Little man is currently obsessed with all things transport so after the first lap we made a beeline for the stall with lots of Thomas the Tank Engine items, that’s where we made our first purchase of talking Thomas phone.
We then proceeded to find every vehicle, large and small, in the room, it managed to come away with just two diggers, phew!
We could have bought so much in the market, there was mix of used items and some new with tags. In the end we walked away with a push along trolley with blocks, doctors kit, a set of phonics books (£3, worth £60!), a puzzle, a piano come xylophone, two pairs of shoes, a jumper and christmas top…all this for £22! Went slightly over the budget, but little man was dead set on the final digger.
There was a small selection of refreshments up for grabs, including some yummy looking cakes, although no hot chocolate, sorry Katrin!
Can’t wait for the next mum2mum market, they usually run monthly, unfortunately there won’t be another one before Christmas, but you can pick up some bargains in January at the next sale on the 29th.
Tips:
– If you can, avoid taking a pushchair, it gets quite tight in some areas (although handy to carry all of the bargains!)
– it’s all cash stalls so make sure you’re prepared
