So when Richard Jarmy Photography asked if we would like to attend a pop up shoot I thought this would be perfect to remedy this! As much as I’m not the biggest fan of having my photo taken I don’t want there to be little or no record of how I looked when my Mini Mumblers were still mini.
As with everything I seem to do nowadays, the first thing I did when Richard asked about the pop-up shoot was hit Google. Before I accepted I wanted to have a look at the type of photos he takes so I had an idea of his style. The outdoor family shots looked relaxed and not overly staged, with the odd silly one thrown in, so we signed up! (I say we, my husband still argues that I didn’t actually tell him he was going to be photographed until the morning of the shoot – pretty sure I did?)
The booking process via Facebook is simple, you just click on the date and time you want to turn up and follow the instructions to payment. I then received an email explaining where we had to go (our shoot was at Overstrand beach, somewhere we’d never been before) with detailed maps of how to find him.
The forecast had been for cloud and drizzle so as with any British outdoor event, we’d gone armed with jumpers, umbrellas, wellies, suncream, sunhat and flip-flops. Plus the spare clothes needed by a relatively newly toilet trained toddler and a baby that seems to poo every time she sits in the car seat. When we got there however, the sun was shining – hurrah!
Driving to the coast reminded me why we should visit more of it; Norfolk is so pretty. We arrived at Overstrand beach and walked down the steep slope to the meeting point where Richard was already waiting. We’d told Mini Mumbler that we were going to the beach so she was slightly disappointed that the tide was in and the only sand was on the walkway but she happily chatted to Richard and had (the first of SO many) snacks.
Richard was immediately warm and friendly and put us at ease. He started talking to A to get her on side, a tough job when she’s set on doing exactly what she wants and nothing else. He was happy to take her lead though and just got some shots of her doing what she wanted to do.
The 15 minutes slot was the perfect amount of time before Mini Mumbler had definitely had enough of us asking her to do things (it was even enough time for her to attempt her first open-air wee, which ended up all over the clothes and on my arm – hmm, more practise needed!)
By the time we made it home I had already had a text message with some of the images from the shoot and they looked fab. I was sceptical that there would be any good ones, what with the grumpy mcgrumpyface of a nearly 3 year old, but even those ones will be a reminder of the day and of her nearly 3 year old personality! *Just look at the look of joy on her face!*
All the photos were ready within a week. We were sent a link to a password protected online gallery where I could download any image I wanted – I love that I can have any image and that I’m not restricted by a number! There is also the option to add the prints to a shopping cart to be printed or to be made into a photo book, keyring, mouse mat, fridge magnet etc. Perfect if you want to shamelessly give your relatives images of your family for birthdays/Christmas/any occasion where gifts are given, which I do! #sorrynotsorry
Thank you to Richard for inviting us and for taking some beautiful images of our family. I’m so glad there is a record of me and my little ones that will last forever. I’ll leave the review with one of my absolute favourites:
(Do you think I should contact the Sophie La Girafe company about the product placement? Ha!)
