Before I had children I was very active.
I had been a personal trainer in my early 20s so felt confident going to the gym a few times a week. I also had an active job as a PE teacher so I was used to being on the go.
However all this changed when I had my children. With my son, I still walked lots and got outdoors with the pushchair and the sling. But when my daughter was born and then the pandemic hit I really struggled to make exercise or ANY self care a part of my life as a mum.
With two children to chase around, take to and collect from various childcare settings I decided to leave my teaching job and claw back a better work/life/mum balance.
Parenting had been hard but parenting in a pandemic had forced me to use exercise as a coping mechanism for my anxiety and stress to keep me from snapping at my loved ones.
It had helped me balance out some of the feelings I had felt trying to manage all the things and everyone else’s emotions.
I wanted other mums to feel the benefit too so I promoted SELF CARE SUMMER and started an Instagram account to remind other mums to take care of themselves through small acts of self care. One of my offers was to run an exercise class for mums which they could bring their children to. It sold out within two weeks!
My plan was to do supply teaching from September but realising how many mums felt the same meant that Tired Mum Club Norwich was born instead www.tiredmumclub.co.uk
Over the past 6 months I have met and worked with lots of mums who have the same barriers to self care and exercise as I had. We are all busy mums after all!
I now offer solutions to help busy mums both in person and online.
No time – Join the 6 week Get Your Mojo Back challenge
From listening to mums, ‘I have NO time was a problem which I certainly understood’.
So I designed a 6 week course which I run online with a small group of mums.
It includes:
This is what people have said …
‘It’s the 10 minute thing … it is realistic and achievable and it makes me feel so much better’
‘I like the variety of the workouts each week and the fact that Megan checks in with me to keep me motivated and to make sure I actually make time for myself to do the workouts’
‘The information each week about nutrition, stress and building habits has been so useful’
No childcare – Book a mums and kids class
One major problem I have found as a mum is the only time you are away from your children is if you are at work. The mum guilt seems to be so strong that we don’t allow ourselves to have time away from them for any other reason. So I decided why not provide a space for your babies and toddlers to run wild, and play with toys while you get to do some exercise with a qualified professional (who also happens to be another tired mum!)
Classes run on Tuesdays or Fridays 9.30 – 10.30am at Morley Village and Sports Hall
Enjoy 30 minutes of movement, followed by 30 minutes of socialising with other mums over a cuppa. The pandemic has robbed us of our tribe of mums who we can rant to and share things that our partners and parents just don’t understand.
There are different toys for toddlers and babies can sleep, lay on a mat with mums or join in (they make a great weight for certain exercises). It’s a playgroup and exercise class in ONE!
This is what people have said …
‘The class is so welcoming and Megan provides different levels to make sure everyone feels good but without feeling like it is too challenging’
‘I love that my kids now look forward to going to mummy’s exercise class too. It is great for them to see me doing exercise and they just love playing with some new toys!’
‘Having a cup of tea AFTER doing exercise makes me feel like I have achieved so much but still get a bit of me time before I return to the chaos of being a parent/adult responsibilities’
