It’s definitely a lot quieter outside now, and it means we can hear the birds singing loudly from our garden.
So I thought about making some bird food or a bird feeder to encourage more into our garden. We have some binoculars and a bird book, perhaps we can learn more about the different types while we are in lockdown. Or is that just wishful thinking with three children?!
Anyway, I have found some great tips from the RSPB website on making your own bird food and even a bird bath. We’re going to have a go and see if we get any results!

You need:
Step 1: Ask a grown up to core the apple, then thread the string through the hole in the apple.
Step 2: Make an ‘X’ with the sticks and tie them to the string so the apple sits on top.
Step 3: Make a pattern by pushing seeds into the apple, then it’s ready to hang up!

You need:
Step 1: Allow the lard to warm up to room temperature, but don’t melt it. Then cut it up into small pieces and put it in the bowl.
Step 2: Add the other ingredients. Mix them together with your fingers until the fat holds the squidgy mess together.
Step 3: Now group your cones together and loop the string around the top of them. Then pack the sticky bird mix around the cones with your hands, creating a ball shape.
Step 4: Put your cones in the fridge to set for an hour or so. After that, they’ll be ready to hang up.

You need:
Step 1: Cut cubes of apple and cheese
Step 2: Thread the cubes onto the garden wire like a necklace
Step 3: Make a hoop with the wire and tie it to some string.

You will need:
Step 1: Lay out 4 bricks on a piece of open lawn, where the birds will have a good all-round view and can get cover in bushes or trees if they need to.
Step 2: Put your bowl on top of the bricks. Make sure it’s stable.
Step 3: is the bird bath slippy inside? Put some pebbles or rocks in the water to give them a better grip.
Step 4: Fill your bird bath with water, sit back and enjoy.
