If you’re looking for a Christmas movie to enjoy with the kids, here is a list of 20, compiled by myself and mini mumbler (age 8) and we have included where you can watch them!
We’ve included our favourite movies and new ones that are on our ‘must see’ list this year!
1.Klaus (Netflix subscription)
A selfish postman and a reclusive toymaker form an unlikely friendship, delivering joy to a cold, dark town that desperately needs it.
2. Arthur Christmas (Amazon rent or buy)
Santa’s clumsy son Arthur sets out on a mission with Grandsanta to give out a present they misplaced to a young girl in less than two hours. Our favourite quote from the film ‘There’s always time for a bow!’
3. Elf (Amazon rent or buy)
Buddy, a human, is raised amongst elves at the North Pole. When he discovers that he is not an elf, he travels to New York to search for his biological father. Absolutely hilarious, we love Elf. One of our favourite quotes from the film “I am a cotton-headed ninny muggins!”
4. Christmas Chronicles 1 (Netflix Subscription)
After accidentally crashing Santa’s sleigh, a brother and sister pull an all-nighter to save Christmas with a savvy, straight-talking St. Nick. A must-see movie at Christmas we are excited to see the second movie too this year, which is coming out on Netflix.
5. Angela’s Christmas (Netflix Subscription & Amazon rent or buy)
A trip to church with her family on Christmas Eve gives young Angela an extraordinary idea. Our favourite line from the film “I’m going to wrap you up like a little holy sausage”
6. Frozen (Disney+ Subscription)
Think we all know this one…let’s sing-a-long…Let it go! Our favourite character is Olaf…if he’s yours, take a look at Olaf’s Frozen Adventure below!
7. Frozen II (Disney + Subscription)
If you watch the first, you have to watch the second…
8. Polar Express (Amazon rent or buy)
A young boy boards a train and embarks on an extraordinary journey to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus. His life takes a turn after he encounters special people that make his journey memorable. Watch with your dressing gown on and a mug of hot chocolate!
9. Muppet Christmas Carol (Disney+ Subscription)
Scrooge, an old miser who dislikes Christmas, is visited by spirits who foretell his future and share secrets from his past and present and that helps in changing his view on life.
10. Shrek The Halls (Netflix Subscription)
When Donkey, Puss in Boots and Gingy join in the fun, Shrek’s plans for a cozy family celebration spiral into one truly unforgettable Christmas.
11. Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas is you (Amazon Prime Subscription)
Features Mariah Carey’s music and narration in a loving story about little Mariah’s Christmas wish for a puppy.
12. Nativity (Amazon Prime Subscription)
Paul, charged with directing his school’s Nativity play, falsely boasts that his ex-girlfriend plans to turn the production into a film. Worth a watch for the cute/funny X-Factor style auditions
13. An Elf Story;The Elf on the Shelf (Amazon Prime Subscription)
Chippy the elf is assigned to a family that includes a boy who is questioning the magic of Christmas. When Chippy finds the assignment a bit challenging, his good friends, Santa, and an unexpected child help him remember why his job is important. Mini Mumbler has watched this at school and says it’s very good! We’ve planned to watch it on ‘December-eve’ before the naughty elf on the shelf arrives this year.
14. The Snowman (All4 free to watch or Amazon rent or buy )
When a young boy starts making a snowman on Christmas, it magically comes to life. The snowman then takes him on a journey to meet Santa Claus.
15. Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (Disney+ Subscription)
Olaf and Sven set out on a mission to visit every household in Arendelle to find a new Christmas tradition for Elsa and Anna.
16. Jingle Jangle (Netflix Subscription)
Decades after his apprentice betrays him, a once joyful toy maker finds new hope when his bright young granddaughter appears on his doorstep.
17. The Nutcracker & the Four Realms (Disney+ Subscription)
In Disney’s reimagining of The Nutcracker, a mysterious gift from her mother launches Clara on a journey to four secret realms – where she discovers her greatest strength could change the world. This is definitely on our list of films to watch this Christmas!
18. The Grinch (Netflix subscription)
A grump with a mean streak plots to bring Christmas to a halt in the cheerful town of Whoville. But a generous little girl could change his heart.
19. Mimi and the Mountain Dragon (CBeebies)
Animated adaptation of the children’s book by Michael Morpurgo. A shy little girl named Mimi finds a baby dragon and undertakes a perilous journey to return it to its mother.
2o. Zog & The Flying Doctors (BBC One)
Magic Light Pictures, the multi Oscar-nominated and Bafta Award-winning production company, has announced that an animated adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s ‘Tabby McTat’ is set to premiere on BBC One for Christmas 2023.
