Do you know your nursery rhymes? How many different versions of ‘Row, Row, Row your boat’ do you know? (I can think of at least 10!) Did Humpty Dumpty ever get up again?
It is believed nursery rhymes are dying out, but every week in our Beebops Sensory Music and Dance classes we help you remember the old favourites, some less well known rhymes and even teach you new verses and second verses. When I first started running children’s music classes I was absolutely amazed at the amount of songs I didn’t know and how many had more than one verse. I think my favourite has to be Twinkle Twinkle little star though, and I love to hear the little ones singing along. There is even a Christmas version of that too!
My all time favourite sensory activity has to be the bubbles and watching all those different colours as the light reflects on them as they dance around the room. I also love playing with scented play dough, it feels great and smells wonderful. A lot of our sensory toys are either homemade or household items and it gives you great ideas of things you can do at home with your little ones too.
Beebops classes are not just nursery rhymes though…
What to expect at a Beebops class:
We encorporate lots of singing, dancing, action songs, percussion instruments, exciting sensory props such as parachutes, pom poms, lycra, bean bags, streamers etc and use them to help to develop those fine and gross motor skills.
The first section of our class is structured and we encourage the children to participate in guided actions and movements through dancing, instruments and props. In our baby class the grownups help do the movements, or we have lots for the babies to watch.
The second section of our class is sensory free play where your babies, toddlers and preschoolers can explore different textures, sound, sights and even sometimes smells. This includes bubbles, lights and lots of different toys to explore.
I look forward to seeing you at a Beebops class soon!
