Recently, a lovely member of the Norwich Mumbler chat group asked for ideas for batch cooking and we’ve had so many replies, we thought we’d share it on the website too.
It’s definitely prompted me to get the slow cooker going again to make my life easier!
What are your ideas for batch cook must haves to fill the freezer for those quick handy dinners on a busy day?
Here are a few excellent ones from Norwich Mumblers, thanks to all those who posted.
- Spaghetti Bolognaise
- Chilli Con Carne
- Curry
- Lasgane
- Meatballs
- Mac and Cheese
- Stroganoff
- Vegetable Lasagne
- Moussaka
- Pasta Bake
- Fish pie
- Cottage pie
- Vegetable and bean chilli
- Spaghetti Carbonara
- Quiche
- Oven baked risotto
- Sausage casserole
- Beef stew
Slow Cooker tips:
- ”buy fresh ingredients, prep them for slow cooker and freeze to just then dump it in the cooker in the morning.”
- ”Make a steak pie filling, pop any leftovers in a pie dish in the freezer and then just add pastry for next time.”
- ”Spahetti Bolognaise in the slow cooker. Start it off, then all you have to do is cook the pasta when you want to eat.”
- ”Vegetable tomato sauce, which I slow cook, then blend and freeze and use as the base to cook most things with. When in a rush, just put it with pasta or rice.”

- Batch cook tomato and mozzarella bread. Freeze, then defrost what you need, warm through and add a sprinkle of olive oil.
- Burger patties, freeze, then defrost and customise with a topping of your choice each time.
- Soup, any kind! Add pasta or bread to thicken.
