Hi all, I’m Kirsty and I run Baby Weight Fitness Norwich- with the first class starting this week, I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce the business to fellow Mumblers!
After becoming a mum in August, 2016 I was keen to lose some weight and tone up but didn’t feel there was an activity in Norwich that suited my needs: I didn’t have any childcare available to me so felt very limited. Feeling inspired, I started studying to become a fitness instructor and pre/postnatal fitness specialist and started Baby Weight Fitness classes, which are designed with new mums in mind, for all levels of fitness.
Mums are welcome to bring their babies along too – each venue has a designated baby area set up so that babies can socialise and are occupied whilst mum works out. Whether my clients are looking to lose weight, tone up, learn exercises specific to healing the post-pregnancy body or just socialise with other mums – these classes have something for everyone.
There are so many benefits of exercise and physical activity in the post- partum period, including improved posture, decreased fatigue, improved muscular strength and endurance and decreased anxiety. Mental wellbeing after having a baby is so important: looking after your mental health as well as your physical health can be overwhelming, especially with a new baby in tow. NHS research has shown that about 1 in 10 women get depressed in the year after having a baby- unfortunately, it is just not talked about enough. Exercise releases endorphins which boost our mood and energy levels – our classes allow mums to exercise with their baby beside them (with lots of opportunities for kisses and cuddles!), in a carrier or in the baby play area.
Classes will vary each week but will contain a cardio element and MSE (muscular strength and endurance) exercises for different areas of the body. Equipment including resistance bands, mats, dumbbells and balls are provided.
Taster classes will run throughout August at the places and on the dates shown below – come and see what we do!
Mulbarton @10am on the 14th and 28th
Yaxham, Dereham @ 2pm on the 14th and 21st
